Book Updates and Corrections
A printed book cannot be revised. Software menus get renamed, web addresses move, and now and then an author gets something wrong. This page carries both kinds of change for each of my books, and it is the place to look when something in print no longer matches what you see on your screen.
Two labels are used throughout. A Correction means the book was wrong and this page has the right answer. An Update means the book was right when it printed and the world has since moved. Most of what appears here will be the second kind.

Current Steps: Where to Keep Your Standing Instructions
Appendix E explains how to save a written set of standing rules so an assistant reads them at the start of every session. Each company calls this something different and renames it regularly, so the current steps live here rather than in the book. The idea does not change even when the menus do: every major assistant provides you somewhere to store standing rules and often a place beside it to attach your own trusted documents.
ChatGPT
Open Settings, choose Personalization, then Custom Instructions. Ensure that customization is toggled on, and then paste your rules into the custom instructions field. They take effect immediately in every new conversation until you change them.

A note on custom GPTs. ChatGPT has offered small standing assistants called GPTs, which could carry a rule file and your own reference documents. OpenAI is retiring them. Its own migration guidance gives 25 September 2026 as the end of new GPT creation and 11 December 2026 as the date custom GPTs stop running, with a feature called Plugins as the replacement; a migrated GPT’s instructions become a skill inside a plugin. Nothing above is affected by this change. The custom instructions field is a separate feature and it remains the simplest place to keep your standing rules.
Microsoft Copilot
In Copilot Chat, select Settings and more, the three dots in the upper right corner, then the gear labelled Chat settings. Choose Personalization from the left menu, locate the Custom Instructions tile, and select Edit Instructions. Paste your rules into the compose area, then select Save instructions.
If you are working inside a Copilot Notebook built around one project, such as a single book or sermon series, set the rules on the notebook instead so they apply only there. In the Copilot app, select More options, the three dots, and then Instructions. In OneNote, select the arrow beside the notebook name, then Copilot instructions.

Google Gemini
At gemini.google.com, select Open Sidebar, then Gems, and then New Gem. Please give it a name and paste your rules into the instructions field. To attach your own trusted documents, scroll down to Knowledge and select Add files; you can upload from your device, add a file from Google Drive, or attach a NotebookLM notebook. Select Save.
